This is a very busy time of year for all of us. It may not solely be due to benefit open enrollment. It’s also the ramp up for the craziness of the holiday season. Often times we will find ourselves over-committed this time of year.
This can leave us tired, worn-down, and wrung out. It is very hard to be helpful to other people when we find ourselves in this condition. So, it is imperative that we take care of ourselves as a priority so that we can meet our commitments. You’ve heard the phrase “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” This means if we don’t figure out what restores us and take time to renew ourselves, we cannot do all of the things we need to do or have committed to do. Today lets shift away from technology for a moment, with a gentle reminder that it’s always the right time for self-care.
Here are some of the things we find fill us up.
1. Take a walk in nature.
2. Go to sleep early.
3. Set technology boundaries. It can probably wait until tomorrow.
4. Say No when you need to.
5. Pamper yourself with a spa day.
6. Schedule a sleepy Saturday or Sunday with zero commitments.
7. Do something that brings you joy.
8. Only commit to the “extra things” if they fill you up.
Feel free to add your favorite self-care items to our list, and remember this our fellow HR mavins, taking care of ourselves puts us in much better place to take care of others!
