October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A lot of activities occur to raise the focus on breast cancer and those in our lives who have been impacted by it. We encourage our employees to find ways to support and give back to the community. In the past, our team has raised money and walked in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® to support the cause.
This year our female employees decided to support their “sisters” by donating gently used bras to The Bra Recyclers. According to The Bra Recyclers, 95% of clothing can be recycled, but only 15% actually end up being donated or recycled. The rest end up in landfills. Bras are a high demand item for women in transition or crisis. And while many charities accept clothing donations, few accept bras.
The Bra Recyclers help reshape the lives of women in transition or crisis with needs around these staples. They support over 100 organizations serving the homeless and victims of domestic violence and human trafficking around the world. Bras that cannot be used are broken down and recycled into textiles for such uses as carpet padding.
Supporting organization like The Bra Recyclers is a win-win for us. Not only are they helping to reshape the environment and the impact people have on it, but also the lives of people around the world.
